The Kiwanis of Hudson, the Area News Group, Gray’s Contracting, and Rogers Pools joined together to assist many families in Litchfield that are struggling this Christmas.
“We had almost 100 kids that wouldn’t get gifts this year if it wasn’t for the businesses and folk who stepped up,” commented Selectwoman Pat Jewett.
Along with at least three toys, gifts for each child included gloves, hats, earmuffs, and gift cards for supermarkets, movie theaters, gas stations, and T-Bones restaurant.
“The economy is tough for everyone, as we all know,” added Jim Gray of Gray’s Contracting, a Hudson construction company. “We do what we can to help others. The toys aren’t the important thing. It’s seeing the faces of people light up when you offer a hand and they weren’t expecting it.”
The tough times are hitting across all levels of society.
It’s never too late to help out a family in need — even on a tight budget. Giving hope and help to those in need is as easy as baking some cookies or a casserole and bringing it to a family.

Melissa Hegarty, one of the organizers of the annual Hudson T-BONES ‘Tips for Toys’ events, shows just how much fun it is to shop for area children with the impressive donations made by the waitstaff.
On Monday evening, December 15, the bartenders and waitstaff at the Hudson T-BONES collected all their tips to purchase much-needed items for area youth that will be provided to the Salvation Army for distribution. Their donation totaled $4,778, exceeding their goal of $4,000.
This unique event was started by the employees some 14 years ago and has become an annual event. This is now a holiday tradition, not only for the waitstaff but for many of the loyal T-BONES customers who plan to dine on that day and give generously in this unique way to help those in need. The waitstaff not only donates all their tips but then plans a shopping trip to actually purchase the clothing and toys for local children of all ages up to18.
Tom Boucher, owner and CEO of T-BONES and Cactus Jack’s Restaurants, was so impressed by the efforts of the Hudson T-BONES staff that he announced the owners would match the amount that was so generously donated by the waitstaff. That brought the total donation to $9,556, representing one of the largest local donations to the Salvation Army.
Melissa Hegarty, one of the organizers of the T-BONES ‘Tips for Toys,’ said, “We enjoy this cooperative effort so much and would like to thank all our guests for helping exceed our goal this year. The news that the owners of T-BONES and Cactus Jack’s are matching our donation is overwhelming! We are more excited than ever to be able to shop for and provide area children with so much joy and much-needed holiday cheer.” The Hudson T-BONES is located at 77 Lowell Road.

Amy Beaudoin, Christian Fecteau, Jessica Beaudet, Shawna Murray, and Tyler Prescott, waitstaff from the Hudson T-BONES, gather toys they purchased as part of their ‘Tips for Toys’ event. The team raised close to $5,000. The owners matched their donation, allowing them to purchase nearly $10,000 of toys and gifts for area children.

T-BONES Jessica Beaudet finds that gathering toys for area children makes her feel like a kid again too! Their ‘Tips for Toys’ annual event brings the entire Hudson waitstaff team together by donating all their tips to benefit area children. Gifts purchased were provided to the Salvation Army for distribution.

Two Hillsborough District 27 Legislators have been tapped to take over key leadership positions among Republicans in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. House Republican Leader Sherman Packard (R-Londonderry) has asked Representative Shawn Jasper (R-Hudson) to be the Republican Whip and Representative Andy Renzullo (R-Hudson) to be Republican Deputy Whip for the new session which begins in January. These appointments make Jasper and Renzullo the number three and four ranked Republicans in the House, respectively. The function of the House Republican Whips is to unite the Republican members in a common effort and to provide channels of communication among the members.
Being the Republican Whip is not new to Jasper, who is serving his eighth term. He held the Republican Whip position in 1994, under Speaker Harold Burns. “I look forward to working with my fellow Republicans to craft an alternative budget, without the need for a sales or income tax. It should be clear by the end of the term why the tax and spend policies of the Democrats are bad for the working people of New Hampshire,” Jasper said.
Renzullo, who is entering his third term, was 2006-2008 co-chair of the House Republican Alliance – a conservative group of Republicans and the single largest self-identified group within the Republican Party in the New Hampshire House.
“While Republicans may be a diverse party, we are united in our common beliefs of personal and fiscal responsibility which we share with the majority of New Hampshire’s citizens,” stated Renzullo.
Jasper and Renzullo are now working on the party’s most critical need of establishing a communication procedure and structure for use when the legislative session commences in January.
